  Being Under Cult Mind Control is a Psychological Disorder - Steve Hassan

  thought perhaps some newer members who haven't heard some of hassan's thoughts on mind control might relate to this from their own experiences in jehovah's witnesses .

  even though mind control is initiated by the cult involved in controlling it's members - hassan points out - it actually becomes a psychological disorder which can entrap the victim himself or herself - all the while - as they are being controlled by the leaders of cults.. on page 55 of hassan's book " releasing the bonds - empowering people to think for themselves " it states what happens in a destructive cult , " in a destructive cult, the locus of control shifts to the group or it's leader .

  the new recruit abdicates his ability to make decisions.

  LeavingWT, I saw this video on TV awhile back and was especially shocked that he succeeded in taking 2 wives from other members and convinced young girls to lay naked with him In the Name of GOD! It just shows how the human mind can be manipulated. If "normal" people can be convinced that these things are good and acceptable, than you can easily see how the Watchtower can suceed in convincing it's followers of the things it does. What's also interesting is that while he convinced his followers that the above things mentioned were Godly, the members that have left are still allowed back to see their parents if they wish... Not so with the JW's obviously.

  You are right about this, and I liked your doctor analogy. If one believes in the Bible, it's made clear that we should not follow anyone that is throwing about their sheep and mistreating them. I wish I could wave a magic wand and make JW's see clearly whats happening to them.

  Awen said : a recent WT article brought to my attention that the GB considers all the Annointed Ones not of the GB to be mistaken and that sincere JW's shouldn't listen to anything they might say if it's in opposition

  I've always wondered about that.. the fact that only a few of the annointed are running everything when there are so many partaking with several points of view and some are "GASP" female!

  On the Way Out said: they have to mistrust the members to do the right thing

  This is one thing that stuck out to me awhile back. It seems they have no trust in any of the "flock" to make a good decision about ANYTHING. Nt even how to wear their hair or whether or not to wear panty hose etc. It's sad.

  Love the Poem Freydo. I especially like this line:

  Interesting. I have read that book and can see that that does mean that al least some of the GB must know what they are doing.

  Still curious about the Watchtower writers themselves. I picture them with a guide to what they are supposed to be writing or something. How do they come up with these arcticles they write and do they just happen to be repetitive because they try to fit one point into a drawn out article, or does the actual writer know that he is trying to "hypnotize" his audience. Same with the person who writes the talks for conventions and such.

  they stated excommunication in 1947 was not only unscriptural, but also Pagan

  Interesting Cognac. I wasn't aware of that. I may have read it when I was initially educating myself but I was on info. overload and not all of it stuck. Where was that written so I can find it?

  I've read a few other threads about cult mind control as well as Steven Hassans Book Comabatting Cult Mind Control. I also read a thread questioning the WAtchtowers motives. Are they in it for the money or what? The general response on that one was that they genuinely believe what they write.

  So the writers believe it and yet knowingly use mind control techniques to get us to believe it as well? Or does it just happen on accident? The repitition (hypnotic effect) the loaded language, shunning, etc. etc.? Are they AWARE they are trying to control their group?

  Kudos Adalwolfa. I agree with your statement regarding Aspergers. I wouldn't be upset one bit if I had an Einstein for a child.

  I can see that it would be a struggle for a parent to adjust for their child but it could be like any other challenge that comes up in parenting. It's probably a lot more of a challenge for those with children with autism that are considered a lot "lower functioning". Many of them don't speak and may not even respond to you at all when you talk to them. They tend to be very locked inside their own mind and may not wish, or be able to come out. Because of this inability to relate they usually have many other behavior problems and may have a much harder time potty training and things like this.

  So, I just wouldn't want to ignore the parents out there that struggle with these more severe behaviors. It's probably very difficult for them.
